      NOTES:
      Lott Porter Massey's enlistment into the Falcon Guards was 18 July 1861. (Company E. 11th Arkansas Infantry). He was captured 8 Apr 1862 at Island no. 10 and taken to Camp Douglas, Illinois where he died Sep 2, 1862.

      3. Census Records, 13 Sep 1850. "Listed as L. P. Massey (30,SC) with wife Parthena (28,SC) and children Mary M. (5,MS), Nancy C. (2,MS) and Frances (2/12,MS)." Mississippi, Monroe County, Eastern Division. Pg 27 of 126.

      4. Census Records, 29 Aug 1860. "Listed as L. P. Massey (41,SC) with wife Parthena (40,SC) and children Mary A. (15,MS), Nancy C. (10,MS), July A. (8,MS), Margret (6,AR) and William W. (4,AR)." Arkansas, Columbia County, Alabama TWSP, Pg 404, 194 of 229.
    • Lott and his brother John M. enlisted in Co. E, 11th Arkansas Infantry in July 1861 at Benton Arkansas. They were both captured on 8 april 1862 at Island 10, Missouri and sent to the military prison at Camp Douglas, Illinois. John died there 14 July 1862 and Lott died there on September 2.

      July 25th 1862
      Mrs. Massey, Dear Wife,
      With eagerness I embrace this opportunity of writing a few lines. I have been now in Camp Douglass sometime over three months, have enjoyed very ill health but I am now improving. I hope from the present indications that I will soon bewith you again hoping to find you all well and hearty. Our Company have suffered severly with sickness. thirteen have died among the numbers is my dear brother Jack Massey. The following is a list of the dead

      The Company is now enjoying very good health we are treated very well by the Federals we get plenty to eat and clothes to wear. I heard from our officers recently who are now at Johnson Island [illeg] they are well and hearty in fine spirits hoping to soon meet those love ones.
